The City of Caldwell pays for the Mounted Officers wages while on duty. The Caldwell Police mounted Unit Foundation owns two horses and covers veterinary care, feed, farrier services, tack, uniforms, and other operation related expenses. the privately owned horses used for mounted patrol are supported completely by the officers who own them.

Donation options

The City does not purchase the horses or fully fund their care. Most expenses—including feed, shelter, vet care, and equipment—are covered by the officers themselves. Community donations and fundraising efforts provide additional support to keep the mounted unit active.

You can support the mounted unit by sending your donation through the mail or by making a secure online contribution. Every dollar goes directly toward the care and upkeep of our horses, including feed, veterinary services, equipment, and training. Your support plays a vital role in helping us continue our mission and ensuring the mounted unit remains a strong and visible presence in our community.

Two Riders, No Mounts: How You Can Help

Between the certified horses owned by some of our officers and the two horses owned by the CPMU Foundation, there are still two trained and certified riders without an assigned mount. If you have a sound horse of the right size and temperament that you would consider donating to the CPMU Foundation for service in the Mounted Unit, or would like to donate towards the purchase of a horse for our two officers in need of a mount, contact us to discuss some options.

Thanks to generous people like you, the Caldwell Police Mounted Unit Foundation has provided a valuable resource to the community through the Mounted Unit that enhances public safety and breaks down barriers between the police and the public.

It costs approximately $5,000 per year to support each horse in the unit. The cost to purchase a new horse is 5,000 to 8,000. Your support is greatly appreciated for these expenditures. Any donation is greatly appreciated, but please consider these levels of support:

Reins – $50 – Underwrites special training
Get in the Saddle – $100 – Provides a blanket for one horse
Show Your Shield – $250 – Assists to uniform expenses
Buy a Saddle – $800 – Saddle purchase
Purchase and Name a New Horse – $5,000-$8,000 – Cost depends on the age and type of horse
Horse Care for One Year – $5,000 – Select the horse you want to support for one year
